From 6 to 10 February, IED Barcelona will be hosting the first Trans Design Week 2017, an initiative where students from the school take part in multi-disciplinary workshops to learn about methodologies, techniques and strategies linked to design and creativity. The project stemmed from the former Workshop Week with the aim of demonstrating how cross-sectional and ground-breaking design can be.
During this first edition, all of the workshops will revolve around a common theme: light. Students will explore this element’s limits, artistic possibilities, properties and meanings. At the end of the week, an exhibition will be put up to display the best projects.
The names of the workshops include Building a lightbulb lamp, Street Art & Light, Sound Design, The Concept of Light through Art History, Skate Design, 3D Prototype Printing (at the LabCafe), Technological Fashion – Wearables, Documentary Photography, Brand Creation, Speculative Design and more!
New Alumni Project
The novelty this year will be a series of activities organised for the school’s alumni. On Thursday 9 and Friday 10 February, there will be workshops and master classes geared towards all of the professionals who graduated from IED Barcelona.
Thursday will also be Career Day, with cutting-edge companies in the sector such as Banc de Sabadell, Lékué, Desigual, Inditex, Paez, Loop, Gratacós, Vice, Vitra and Port de Barcelona, plus a cocktail party to promote networking among alumni in the presence of Francisco Jarauta (Head of Science at IED), Alessandro Manetti (Head of IED Barcelona) and Andrea Marchesi (Deputy Head of IED Barcelona).

The week will finish off with an exhibition showing the best projects produced during the Open Space 2 workshops, which will open on 10 February for students of the IED only. The exhibition will be open to the public from 13 to 24 February.
